Shogun Warriors

Postby Flack » February 5th, 2014, 2:22 pm

When I was a kid I had two of the large Shogun Warriors. I had the blue and yellow guy that had yellow horns and shot missiles out of his boobies, and the red one that threw battle axes and shot Chinese stars. Yes, they were as awesome as they sound. I can't believe I don't still have them based on all the other things I still have from my childhood. I have no idea what happened to them. I recently checked eBay looking to rebuy them and they go for $200+ if complete. Well, at least I still have my memories.

I'm really surprised I never had those, especially since one of those robots, Grendizer (aka Goldorak), was *hugely* popular here in the late 70s and early 80s. Never watched the Force Five version of Grendizer, but I remember reading that the English translation was atrocious compared to the French dub (despite it erasing almost all references to the Mazinger Z series, of which it's a spinoff).

Yours were Dragun (the red one) and Gaiking (the yellow one), btw. Apparently, just like Transformers, Shogun Warriors is actually based on several toy lines merged together for the Western market.

I had the one on the far left. What the hell is up with that one that looks like it had a transporter accident involving Spongebob?

That was Raydeen. :) http://weirdscifi.ratiosemper.com/shogun/raydeen.html

Well, if you think that Gaiking was weird, how about Aphrodite A, from the Mazinger series? It was a female robot piloted by Koji Kabuto/Alcor's girlfriend and its boobs could be launched as missiles.

This guy occasionally posts them on Craigslist. He didn't answer my e-mail last time. He wants people to come see them in his store... which is 3 hours away from me.
