That game has some of the best music.

Thanks for the mention. :-)

Re: YDKF Episode 155: Cassettes

Well I guess it was a little more complex than an EQ adjustment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Cassette One problem I had was some people who had really bad cassette decks would ruin my tapes when I loaned them out. I remember loaning out a tape and getting it back and there was an "echo...

Re: YDKF Episode 155: Cassettes

I was one of those guys who always noticed the difference. Chrome/metal tapes were better but you had to have decks that could properly support the right bias levels for it to work, and we didn't have money anyway, so I always got the regular ones. Like Dolby NR, the playback would apply a different...

Re: YDKF Episode 155: Cassettes

I grew up in a college town with a college radio station. They would play some pretty obscure stuff. I recorded off the radio but the deck was mono and my parents couldn't afford to buy me much media, so diskettes and cassette tapes were always re-used. A shame I have none of those college radio rec...

Also, it's probably the best xbox game I ever played. I played it through twice. I have no idea if it holds up today, but you should give it a try.

Oh, and I forgot in my progression of languages, that I finally spent time learning MOS 6502 assembly about a year ago, just for the fun of it. And came up with this. :-)

Re: Episode 127: BASIC Programming

For me it was BASIC - Pascal - C - Assembly - C++ - Object Pascal. Not including all the various scripting languages. The hurdle one needs to jump if they learned an old BASIC first is the switch from procedural to object oriented programming. When I taught myself C (and later took a course in it, b...

Re: Sprite Castle Episode 016: Impossible Mission

I finally played this game all the way through to win the end when I got it on my Nintendo DS. As far as I can tell, it is a perfect port. The DS version has two modes -- one with updated graphics and one that uses the exact same C64 graphics. The only difference is the graphics. Probably one of the...

Re: [STICKY] Suggestions/Feedback/Requests

GOG is great -- they sell old games and make sure they will run on modern systems, including all the Ultimas.

In fact it looks like Ultima IV is one of the free games they give you when you make an account.

Re: [STICKY] Suggestions/Feedback/Requests

Ultima IV might be tough to do in the show's short format, but I may be able to zip through it a bit. Agreed, but you will thrive on the challenge. :-) You could show the initial character creation and walking into town, but I suppose even that would run a little long. Druid and Druid II, awesome. ...

I'm about six chapters into Exploding the Phone. Great book so far, lot's of interesting history lessons in there. The descriptions of the massive mechanical switching systems invented to automate long distance calling are really fascinating.

Re: Episode 134: The OK Krackers

Some hackers - mostly for bragging rights - could read the machine code directly without a dissassembler. There was a time when there were no assemblers so that was the only way to even write code. :D Of course, with a chip like the 6502, with less than 60 documented instructions, reading the machi...

Our 1541 drive was constantly out of alignment. Very often it could not be used, and sometimes when it could be used I couldn't load files that were saved before it was re-aligned. Listened to it this morning. One video option you didn't mention is using an LCD with a scan line effect in MAME. I have seen some great looking jamma multi-game tables for sale that were perfect except for the fact that they used an LCD screen instead of an arcade monitor, which would be a total de...
