"The Band"

In the late 90s I came in contact with a band that I thought was very talented. At the time I was running my own music magazine and got really involved with this band. A few years later, after moving back to Oklahoma, I flew the band out to record an album in my makeshift home recording studio. Let'...

Keystone Lake

With about 2/3 of the work done on my second book, I found myself hitting a brick wall. I was really busy at work, and in 2008 I had a two-year-old and a six-year-old, so writing at home was difficult too. I really felt like if I could just get away for a couple of days, I could finish the book up. ...

Re: Episode 109: The 1541 Ultimate

Just to clarify Felix, do you mean the 1541 Ultimate, or just a regular 'ol 1541? Because if you need a drive, I have like a dozen gathering dust and would love to send you one. Hell, I'd love to hand deliver you one.

Re: Podcast Ideas

110 (Floppies) is completely written. Chances are I'll record it tonight and edit it sometime this weekend. I'm thinking of naming it "Floppy Trails to You" or maybe "Flopping Away" or something equally unfunny. This episode practically wrote itself and I'm excited about recordin...

Re: Episode 109: The 1541 Ultimate

Oh, haha, that's great! I don't want to knock the x1541 cables -- they're great if you can get them to work. I'm afraid as time goes on though, it'll be harder and harder to keep them working. I never could get one to work with any of my Pentium machines, so I had to keep a 486 up and running just t...

Re: Podcast Ideas

109 is done and out the door. I think I'm doing to delay my original topic for 110 (Text Adventures) until Get Lamp comes out. I came up with an interesting topic yesterday ("Floppies") so I think I will do that for 110. EDIT: 110 is coming together really quickly. I don't want to release ...

In Episode 109 of You Don’t Know Flack I discuss the 1541 Ultimate, along with several other solutions for loading D64 images on real Commodore 64 computers. Re: YDKF: State of the Union ...

For me, the hardest part is getting everything together in one place. Now that I have a dedicated machine set up for recording, it's been pretty easy to get things rolling.

Re: 64 of 64

I wrote music reviews for an online website for a few years and you're right, it's easy to fall into a formulaic rut. When reviewing "bad" albums, I'll always find something good to say; likewise, when reviewing "good" albums, I'll always find something they could have improved o...

Re: Podcast Ideas

I added "Copyfests" to the list. I covered a lot of that ground in Commodork, but some of the stories are great and for people who haven't heard the book they would all be new. Plus I'm sure I could add some new stories and details that didn't make the book. I guess that's a good question....

Re: Podcast Ideas

Hah!

I've gone back and forth on the background sound issue. Without it, sometimes my voice seems to drone on (and on and on ...) but with it, or too much of it, it just seems gimmicky to me. I'll strive to a better balance in the future.

Re: Podcast Ideas

Cool, thanks Ubik. I'll do the thrifting one for sure, I just need to sit down and come up with some interesting stories to go with it.

Re: Commodorkier

That's true. Maybe I need to start with some of the smaller fish* and work my way up from there.

(And by that I mean in accordance with their relation to the book, not how I view them personally of course.)

64 of 64

I love writing game reviews, and I came up with this concept several years ago. Again, "64 of 64" is not the final title; it's more of a description. The concept of this book was/is that it would contain sixty-four separate reviews of Commodore 64 games. I spent several months and consulte...

Hacker on the Run (Fiction)

About a year ago I had three unrelated people all ask me if I had ever considered writing fiction. Actually, one of them was my doctor, who said, "it's too bad you don't write fiction, because that's where the money's at." So, I decided to try my hand at it. This project is called "Ha...

Re: Podcast Ideas

I'd really like to hear about arcade auctions. We don't have anything like that going on in California (at least I've never heard of any) and the idea that people are doing that all the time just a few states away kinda boggles my mind. They look really fun. SuperAuctions has one listed this June i...

Pictures

If you weren't aware, all the pictures from both of my first two books are online in album format here:

Online they're in color, which is nice. I wanted to include them in color in the physical book, but it would have almost quadrupled the price.

Commodorkier

When I began selling copies of Commodork in PDF format, I wanted to offer buyers "something extra", and that's when I came up with an idea: Commodorkier was supposed to be a smaller "where are they now" electronic book, in which I interviewed key people from Commodork. I had plan...

YDKF: State of the Union ...

Just to get everybody up to speed ... About two years ago I started my own podcast called "You Don't Know Flack". In two years I've recorded about nine episodes, which isn't a great number. One of the problems I ran into was, every time I was in the mood to record a new episode, everything...
