Re: YDKF Episode 194: Crossroads Mall

That massive common area that has to be air conditioned is one of the problems with malls as they get "poorer" (with the kinds and quantity of stores they have). That costs as ton of money and has to be done whether you have 70 or 100 percent occupancy; even when you get down to five diffe...

Re: YDKF Episode 194: Crossroads Mall

Here's a collection of shopping mall advertisements from the 70s and 80s. It's weird watching these.

Re: Sprite Castle 049: Jeopardy

Would love to see Al play some time. We have all of his albums up until maybe the last one or two. We have the Permanent Record box set, which has seen plenty of use. It was something we bought together early in our marriage. My wife and I did not enjoy the same genres of music, but we could always ...

Re: Sprite Castle 049: Jeopardy

Good 'cast. I think games like this were just beyond what was reasonable to expect from 8-bit machines with limited RAM. Especially things like not accepting phonetic spelling of answers, etc. Not a C64 game, but a really good "game show" game I played is You Don't Know Jack on PSX. It's b...

Re: Sprite Castle Plays (Videos)

I liked how you showed the digis that were on the floppy along with the game. That kind of personal thing makes it the whole feel of the video warmer and not just "video game player plays a video game on youtube that other video game players have played too."

Re: YDKF Episode 190: Tron

Great podcast. I loved Tron: Legacy and still think it is a great movie. But I doubt I would like it so much if I didn't already have a connection with the original. There is a cerebral aspect to the story that doesn't get quite enough emphasis. Minor nitpick. The young-Flynn is not really a de-aged...

Ahh. Double features with Tron. I saw Tron in the theater as a double feature with my Dad and brother. The other move was Annie.

Regarding emulation/simulation/etc for FPGA. I think a good term is IMPLEMENTATION. They're making hardware that implements a specification, not software that emulates it. Not that this name matters much. :-) And about arcades and COVID. Before this stuff started we were planning a trip to Arcadia. ...

I always learn something new in your news segment (Sidekick64 -- cool!). And thanks for mentioning my video. I have a list of ideas for Retro Ruminations. I wish coming up with time to record and edit was as easy as making lists.

I like the layout, very nice. I had it playing while I was working on something else, and I covered the youtube window with another program, and my daughter said "hey, I can't see him play the game." You have a new fan. :-) Thanks for keeping it family-friendly.

The Ultimate 64 is straight-up awesome for doing Commodore video into OBS. You get a raw video and audio feed over the network. All you need is U64 Streamer: https://www.tsb.space/sdm_downloads/u64streamer/ I also experimented with real hardware capture through my RetroTink 2x Pro. It is good, but n...

Re: Commodork/Commodorkier to appear on StoryBundle

Just want to say, I read Commodorkier last night before bed. I'm pretty sure I had weird C64-related dreams. Also, you should know that you beat out Frank Herbert for my before-sleep reading. Congrats! Anyway. I appreciated and enjoyed how you revisited your original book. I remember meeting you for...

Re: Sprite Castle 041: Dig Dug

In this one you talk about using something other than a real C64. I've not seen the Pi solution you are talking about, but after using my Ultimate 64 for a while, I can say that I expect to use the U64 almost exclusively from now on. Finally, with the U64, there is a way to get HDMI that is absolute...

Re: YDKF Episode 185: My Current State of Affairs

When I was younger, I was happy to solve storage problems without considering how things would look. I had a lot of cheap shelving (that plastic stuff that is assembled with tubes). Once I bought a long plank of wood and a few metal shelf brackets and screwed it above the wide closet doors in the ro...

Re: Those Kids Just Don’t Know

I found a picture somebody posted of the cd changer model I first bought-- an Optimus Pro 25 CD changer. In fact, this was the first and only non-portable compact disc player I owned, I think. The best thing about it was that it wasn't a cartridge-based changer. And it looked awesome in the rack. 25...
