Re: YDKF Episode 178: Y2K
I remember the whole Y2K thing in computers, we had budget to set up physical computers to run ahead of time to check software. And everything in offices had to be switched off at the last working day of 1999 in case the electricity would fail and come back. The 'best' Y2K thing I saw was the Sanyo ...

Re: YDKF Episode 158: Tornadoes
I am interested in the weather/meteorology and I have seen quite a bit about tornadoes in the movie Twister and in the Storm Chaser series. You managed to bring across the other side of tornadoes: being in the area or being in that house where the tornado can strike next. Serious compliments for thi...

Re: YDKF Episode 157: Printer Extravaganza
Printshop: good memories there. We had a neighbour with a C64 who let me and a friend (around the time we were 15 I think) use his computer and printer just so someone was enjoying his computer. We did some fun stuff with printshop but never overdid it nor started selling printouts :D . In retrospec...

Re: YDKF Episode 152: Star Wars Video Games
Really enjoyed this episode. I know almost nothing about Star Wars but I enjoyed it anyway. The video game sounds were also a great timeline of audio quality in games and it made the episode very enjoyable to listen to. The load of work you did produced one great episode of YDKF!

Re: YDKF Episode 149: Networks
Just got around to listening to this episode. I did notice you don't mention the forum as a way to respond to the podcast, but I'll stick to what works for me. Lots of fun and somewhat recognizable stuff in this episode for me, although games were never the reason to run a network for me. A multilin...

Lots of stuff I never heard in music back then!
I played a lot of Prince albums with a friend and noticed the backwards bits in 'Darling Nikki' but never were able to reverse the CD ;)
And of course Weird Al has his own approach. Brilliant.

Re: Episode 131: Phun with Boxes
I recently read the very very good book exploding the phone and this has a lot more on the history of boxes and technical details. This does mean I heard several errors in your podcast, but I'll forgive you on those as a lot of information back then was second-hand or worse and indeed in those phile...

Re: Episode 133: Ninjas
Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. It's an interesting insight into your life, and I admire how you describe it and how open you are about it. You didn't mention your ninja period on Commodork, which makes this so much 'newer' to me. And yes, I have a backlog in listening and getting around to posting...

Re: Episode 120: Radio Scanners
Thanks for the info. You're the second person to mention to me that my hertz and megahertz were, uh, "hurting". And there I was avoiding exactly that pun! My scanner history is that I bought one when police and fire departments still used analog networks and I started to get interes...

Re: Episode 119: Hohocon '94
I enjoyed this one a lot. It reminded me a lot of my first "hacker camp" in 1993 (Hacking at the End of the Universe, held at a very remote campsite in the Netherlands). Lots of parallels between the two events. Differences, too: US hacker meets seem to be more of the 'convention' type, Du...

Re: Episode 120: Radio Scanners
So, finished listening, some more comments. You mix up your hertzes, megahertzes and gigahertzes which is noticeable to this aspiring radio amateur. And you describe the US situation. Here in the Netherlands the public safety services have all moved to digital encrypted networks. What is available: ...

Re: Episode 120: Radio Scanners
I haven't listened to this podcast yet (I will) but I do object a bit to the word 'eavesdrop' with regard to scanner listening: it is information out there, and setting up or using a system that uses AM (like air traffic control) or NFM (most public safety radios) means being fully aware that anyone...

Re: Episode 117: Copyfests
Great episode. Enjoyed the descriptions of those copyfests. I remember when the gatherings of the local computer user group were a bit of a copyfest (late 80s, begin 90s).. later there was a crackdown. Audio quality was great, no echo or weird background noise (other than the one at the start). And ...

Re: Episode 116: Mr. Moonpie
I guess I never created a thread for 116. This episode got as many listens as most of the other ones, but I got very little feedback regarding it and I'm worried it wasn't very popular. Just finished listening (yes, podcasts can be on huge delays) and loved it. I liked the description of Mr. Moonpi...

Just finished listening to this episode. Yes, I have a variable backlog in podcasts ;) Great stuff in there. Brings back memories of arriving at school (around 1987) with boxes of 5 1/4" floppies in the schoolbag and exchanging them at the start of classes. My own story of reliability is colour...

Re: Podcast Ideas
My weird idea: do something with other people's retrocomputing/bbs/.. stories. It's your podcast, and your decision but the (great!) subjects you discuss have other similar stories and memories with other people. Maybe interview people. Or ask for audio comments.
