Re: BigRobsVan: Worrying About the Weather

My thermostats are programmable. They are set to keep the temperature at a minimum of 67 and a maximum of 73. There are days here in Oklahoma where the furnace will be running in the morning and the air conditioner will be running in the late afternoon. The only down-side to this is the first time t...

I finished this episode. Nice one! Thanks for the news about the I Adore my 64 film project, somehow that one slipped past me. I pledged at the Defender of the Crown level so I can get the 4k.

Re: PODCAST: Sprite Castle 086: Impossible Mission

I started this podcast this morning and I'm not done, and this is one of your longer ones. You may mention ports of this game to modern systems and I just haven't heard that part yet. I loved this game as a kid but I never understood the goal because like you I didn't have the manual. I didn't reali...

Re: BLOG: Morgan’s Senior Prom

I went to mine. Even took a date. But that is not a night I remember with any particular fondness, for a variety of reasons involving relationships with several different individuals that would take too long to explain here, LOL. Honestly I find a lot of aspects about young dating in our culture to ...

There was an arcade cab for this at the Round Table Pizza my dad used to take us to when I was a kid. I played it and I though it looked awesome. I could never get more than a minute into the game.

You might find Bil's talk interesting. He says the original target price of the Plus/4 was $49.

Re: PODCAST: Rando Rob 0031 – Commodore 16 and +4

I didn't at the time (at barely today) understand the business decision to release two computers that are less powerful than your current computer, which I think was selling for $199 or less at the time. I know people throw around the term, but you could literally teach a class on how to mismanage ...

Re: PODCAST: Rando Rob 0031 – Commodore 16 and +4

I can remember when I was a kid reading about the C16 (and Plus/4). Even though I was like nine years old, I figured these had to be amazing new computers because why would they release anything that wasn't as good as the C64? Yeah, they were complete trash. Turns out the TED line of Commodore compu...

Yeah, I have drawn the line at random household "IoT" stuff that has cameras. We have an automated vaccum but it does not have an optical camera (it uses lasers and other sensors). My YoLink devices for sensors (fridge temps, door sensors, stuff like that) all runs on a hub that is complet...

Re: BLOG: Fitbit Says It’s Time for a $300 Rebate!

Life's all about risks! What's funny to me is that we are okay with a 1 in 10,000 chance of catastrophe because we intuitively know how unlikely that is. And yet somehow the lottery still exists, and people buy up lottery tickets when there is 1 in several million chance of a significant payout. Co...

To be fair to the Goonies, did you even try to get on a bicycle and prevent this from happening? Seriously though, I totally get your feelings on this. Even just reading about the domed theater my Dad took me to to see Tron and other movies jerked on my heartstrings; how it became unmaintained, clos...

Re: BLOG: I Watched All 79 Episodes of Star Trek So You Don’t Have To… But You Should

Enjoyed this. Be sure to watch the original cast movies (1-6). The Wrath of Kahn (2) is an excellent movie regardless of being part of Trek; very Shakespearian.

Re: BLOG: Time (and Surgery) Heals All Bones: Morgan’s Wreck

I think all parents dread "the phone call." I remember when I got my first call from my oldest son after a car wreck. He was babbling so much without saying anything I had to tell him to shut up and then tell me if he is okay. He said yes, and I said, "next time, lead with that."...

There are a lot of great music-related documentaries out there. I could do an entire episode of music-related ones and another (which I'm planning to do) on videogame-themed ones.

Re: YDKF Episode 199: McDonald’s

I remember that if my father was taking the kids to eat fast food, we would go to McDonald's, and if my mother took us, we would go to Burger King. If we all went together, we'd usually go to a non-fast-food restaurant. But it sticks out in my memory that my mom never took us to McDonald's. Somethin...

You mentioned the fish sandwich and Lent. I don't know about Lent, but when I worked there, we sold a ton of those things on Fridays back when Catholics weren't allowed to eat meat on Fridays. When I worked there, they had "25 cent hamburger Tuesdays." It was INSANE how many hamburgers we ...

Re: YDKF Episode 199: McDonald’s

When I was little, the town I lived in had one McDonald's and it was a small one without any kind of playground. Ours had something fairly unique, some kind of bicycle shrine in it. I did some image searches and I couldn't find any pictures of it. It's probably not there any more, and there are cert...

Re: YDKF Episode 194: Crossroads Mall

Having the right unique stores can make a huge difference. We've made the drive to go to the Lego Store. The last time I went to the mall here it was mainly because I wanted to browse the Microsoft store. And as you say, the feeling of safety is a major issue. I'm sure lots of malls do this; the big...
